Activities in Formentera in March & April
We want you to discover the Formentera in March and April ( out off-season)
Formentera is a small paradise, and more so in the off-season! Being able to discover the island in its natural state, without the crowds is quite the privilege. We want to share with you a number of activities that will allow you to discover the best parts of the island during the months of March and April.
Take advantage and visit all of these places that are usually packed with people during the summer months; but during off-season you can have them all to yourself:
1.Visit Illetas and Las Salinas
During low season there is no entry fee, because there is barely anyone around. Take a walk from the restaurant Es Miniestre until you reach S´palmador Island.
-
2. Rent a bike and tour the whole island
You will find that it´s much easier to ride a bike all day without the heat of the summer months. Formentera in March and April is perfect for the bike
You can rent your bike in Formotor, and get a discount with code : CANTRES
-
3. Go visit the cap de Barbaria lighthouse
During low season you can access the area via car, and it´s a great experience to drive up to the lighthouse when there is barely anyone else around.
-
4. Visit the beach bars/kioskos!
Here is a list of the best beach kiosks in the island (link). They are open on weekends all year-round. We recommend that you bar-hop from one kiosko to the other, starting with el Kiosco de Cala Saona, followed by Kiosco Bartolo at the end of Migjorn beach, and be sure to make one last stop at Kiosco 62, where you can catch the sunset, listen to amazing music while you try a classic island drink, the pomada!
5. Yoga in Formentera
Yoga, an excellent time of the year to do yoga in Formentera in March. You can request more information at Can Tres on private yoga lessons; these can be held onsite at Can Tres or in other parts of the island, like Illetas beach for example.
6. Hike the Sa Pujada Trail from Es Caló all the way up to La Mola
This walk may be a little too difficult during the summer months due to the heat and the humidity, but during off season it is perfectly doable!
7. Go to Wine tour!
Formentera wines have their protected geographical indication and they are definitely worth a visit. In the area of La Mola you can find wineries that are open to the public and that offer tours and tastings in which you can learn more about production process. Weather you finish your tour at La Mola or at Cap de Barbaria, both spots offer exceptional views!
8. Birdwatching in protected areas of great environmental value
In the north part of the island, between the towns of La Savina and Es Pujols, you will find Estany Pudent; an ideal location to take a walk or ride a bicycle, not only because it is incredibly scenic, but also because you can spot numerous types of birds. A trail along the lake leads to the path of Es Brolls. During winter it is common to see flamingos, herons and ducks in this area. The pink and violet tones are a huge tourist attraction; this natural space has a very rich ecosystem in which the ancient salt ponds transform the landscape into a postcard. Very close to this area is Ses Salines, a natural park that encompasses land and marine habitats with a special ecological landscape and great historical value.
These are our recommendations if you plan to come spend a few days in Formentera during off-season. If you come in March and April, get ready to discover a completely different island, one which many people end up falling in love with!
